My boss, the president of the company, is allowing #1 son to come to work here. He'll take some shit for being the son of the big boss, but it should allow him to get ahead a little instead of just subsisting.

Crossing my fingers...I really hope this works out for him - for your and for Rootie's sakes.
First week- better than we could hope for. He is riding with me, since the plant is 19 miles from town and he doesn't have a car, and he was out in front of his apartment every morning at 6:30 waiting for me. His department will be working 50 hours/week for the foreseeable future. That coupled with the big increase in hourly rate means his take-home will be double that of a few weeks ago. He has returned to the #1 of old with a quick, hilarious wit. He is making plans to buy a truck soon. I am allowing myself to be optimistic for the first time in a while, but is a cautious optimism.
His Dept head is very happy with him, and already talking about putting him in supervisor training. He (dept head) told me yesterday he had been forced to work executive's sons before and had only bad experiences, but that he was impressed with #1 and looking forward to working with him.
